1、句法作用
①作主语
Half of the land is cultivated. 耕种的土地有一半。
②作宾语
Pay half now and the rest later. 现在付一半，余下的以后付。
③前位限定词作定语
Half the car was damaged.车毁了一半。
2、不定代词half用法说明
①half作定语时，一般位于冠词和人称代词之前；和数词连用时，位于不定冠词a/an之后
It is half the battle to have good rice shoots. 秧苗好，半年稻。
She spent half her money on her clothes. 她的钱有一半用在买衣服上了。
It took two and a half weeks/two weeks and a half to finish the work.这项工作花了两周半的时间。
②注意以下half习语的不同意义
better half 常指妻子，偶尔指丈夫
I will go with you if my better half lets me.如果我妻子同意，我就跟你一起去。
by half 通常用于"too+形容词"之后，表示贬义或讽刺，意义为"太，过分"
Of course, he is a clever politician.Too clever by half, in my opinion.当然，他是位非常精明的政客。不过在我看来，未免太过精明了。
有时by half有"大大地，非常"的意思
He is the better novelist by half.(相形之下)他是一位非常杰出的小说家。
